TLDR
Visit Baku in late April to mid-June or mid-September to late October for mild temperatures, lower humidity, and clear Caspian skies. July and August climb past 32 degrees Celsius with strong sun, and December through February brings cold wind off the sea. This month-by-month guide covers what to expect.
Insider Tip
Shoulder season (late April, October) combines 18 to 25 degrees Celsius, mild winds, and hotel prices 30 to 45 percent below summer peak. The sweet spot for comfort and value.
March to May, Spring and Novruz
Spring is arguably the best overall season in Baku. March starts cool at 8 to 15 degrees Celsius but the days lengthen quickly. Novruz (the Persian new year) falls on March 20 or 21 and the whole city lights up with bonfires, samani wheat sprouts, and public festivals. Hotel prices are moderate. By April the temperatures climb to 15 to 22 degrees Celsius and parks fill with locals. May is warm and clear at 20 to 27 degrees Celsius but the famous Baku wind (Khazri) can kick up on short notice, pack a windbreaker.
May is the peak of the Baku F1 Grand Prix weekend in most years, so book rooms 6 to 12 weeks ahead if you’re travelling then. Outside race weekend, May is excellent for walking, day trips, and photography.

June to August, Peak Summer
Summer runs hot. June starts around 24 to 30 degrees Celsius and climbs into July and August at 28 to 34 degrees with strong sun and low humidity. The Caspian breeze helps but midday walking along the Boulevard at 14:00 in August is uncomfortable. Plan mornings (07:00 to 11:00) and late afternoons (17:00 to 21:00) for sightseeing and use the middle of the day for interiors: the Heydar Aliyev Center, Carpet Museum, or a long lunch. For planning ahead, see our Baku neighborhood guide.
Beach visits on the Caspian pick up from June to early September at resorts like Bilgah Beach (35 minutes north). Water is warm enough for swimming July and August. Hotel prices peak in late July and August, often 50 to 90 percent above spring rates.
September to November, Autumn
Autumn is the second best season alongside spring. September stays warm at 22 to 28 degrees Celsius with calmer winds than summer. October mellows to 15 to 22 degrees Celsius and the Caspian still looks blue. November drops to 8 to 15 degrees Celsius and rain becomes more common but is rarely heavy. Hotel prices ease back to shoulder season levels.
This is prime time for day trips to Gobustan and Absheron because the weather is comfortable outdoors. Wine harvests happen in September and early October around Shamakhi, so it’s also an ideal time for wine country tours and tastings.

“We visited in October and the weather was ideal. Hotel was quiet, staff attentive, and the spa was blissful after days of walking.”
Read more guest reviews →December to February, Winter
Winter is cold but rarely brutal. December averages 6 to 12 degrees Celsius, January dips to 3 to 9 degrees Celsius, and February edges back up. Wind off the Caspian pushes the feels like temperature lower. Snow falls occasionally in the city but melts fast. Rain is more common than snow. Pack layers: a warm waterproof jacket, scarf, and gloves for evening walks. For official country-level information see Visit Azerbaijan’s official tourism portal.
Flight deals and hotel prices drop significantly in January and February, with the exception of the New Year holiday week when prices spike for a few days. If you tolerate cold wind, winter Baku is an excellent budget option and sights are far less crowded.
Festivals and Events Calendar
Key events: Novruz (March 20 to 21) is the largest festival with fires and feasting. Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha shift by the lunar calendar and bring quieter streets but festive family meals. Republic Day (May 28) and Independence Day (October 18) are national holidays with parades. The Baku Grand Prix (F1) is usually in mid to late April or early May. The Baku Jazz Festival runs in October.
Business travel peaks around SOCAR conferences in spring and autumn, which can push business hotel rates up even off season. Leisure rates in smaller independent hotels are less affected. See also our Baku travel tips.
Best Weeks for Value, Weather, and Low Crowds
The sweet spot of mild weather, sensible prices, and low crowds falls in the last two weeks of April, first two weeks of May (outside race weekend), second half of September, and all of October. These windows combine 18 to 25 degrees Celsius with moderate hotel rates and easy sightseeing. Book 6 to 10 weeks out for the best flight fares to Heydar Aliyev (GYD).
Avoid late July and August if heat is an issue and you plan mostly outdoor activities. Avoid the F1 race weekend if you aren’t going for the race, prices and traffic disruption are significant.
